ASE Study Assistance
ASE is short for National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence. ASE automobile certification consists of 8 tested areas which must all be passed to be designated as an ASE-Certified Master Automobile Technician. There is an L1 Advanced Engine Performance Specialist certification that can be earned as well.
To become ASE certified, technicians must take at least one written test. In order to qualify, in addition to passing an ASE Certification test, automotive technicians must have two years of on the job training, or one year of on the job training combined with a two-year degree in automotive repair.
A tehnician must go to ASE.com and register in order to test for certification. A $36 registration fee is paid only once during a testing period, no matter how many tests are taken. Tests are $33 each, except L1 and L2, which are $66, this is all paid through ASE.com. Any Prometric Test Center can be located and chosen as the testing facility from the ASE website. The test can not be taken at home.
